Floor lamps are very versatile in every room and many people prefer them to table lamps. One reason is because they can be placed pretty much anywhere, in any corner of any room while giving each room that soft, nice light that rests and relaxes the eyes.

Desk lamps have relatively few options in location, they are mostly placed on tables, desks and nightstands, and unless you have a support below them, they can't be put just anywhere. The floor lamp, on the other hand, can be placed to stand alongside a table, a desk or in one corner of the room to provide soft and spot light. Some lamps, such as the arc floor type have these flexible necks and arches that give additional functionality. For example they can be adjusted to various positions for brightening different places or the entire room.

Furthermore they have additional functions compared to the traditional desk variety. Since they illuminate from above and from below, they are perfect for adding light to the room and the particular spot where people are gathered together for conversations. Also depending on the style, ranging from very sophisticated to totally minimalistic designs, the floor light can accentuate the decor of the room very nicely. And yes, I mention plural because it is not uncommon for people to buy more than one lamp for their rooms.

Unlike ceiling lights that provide lighting from above going from light to dark, these will illuminate a corner or a section of a room and can even highlight a particular object, such a piece of art that the host wants to display to the visitors. Of course, such a lamp is a beauty in itself so it can be displayed as an additional stylish piece of furniture in the room, whereby guests forget its utility aspect and focus on its modern design.

One of the more interesting types is the antique floor lamp. While used for its functional feature, it is really enhancing the room decor, adding that vintage look that is so 'chic' nowadays.. Vintage objects always captivated the eyes of people and having a brass antique style piece to enhance the living room is a choice many people make particularly if they have brass objects already in the room, such as brass door handles to their doors and cabinets.

how should I decorate my room?

I want to decorate my room but not sure what to
put up. I guess you can say I'm a pretty eclectic person - I like sports (particulary surfing, volleyball, and badminton) I also like vintage stuff as well as writing and drawing - I have drawings that are usually about landscapes and random objects set on the table.
I also like music and can play the violin as well as the piano.
I'm a teen if that helps. And i also want to give my room an edgy look. Any ideas for decorating?

paint it in your favorite color....get some chalkboard paint and paint a square rectangle or circle on your wall..you can paint over it later if you need too..and write music notes or whatever on it..its a kinda cool idea...you could go get wooden letters at walmart or some other store and spell out i like...and do pictures of people who are you idolize that play the sports you like...on one wall..you could take one wall and do ribbon make it wide or paint stripes that are wide and hang all your pictures landscapes whatever on the ribbons will make the ribbons look like they are the hangers.....you could do your name in the wooden letters...get a cool chair to play your instrument and leave it sitting out or the case...i would find a color that compliments the paint and get a cool bedspread to match..you could even make your own rug get a piece of canvas from a fabric store..doesnt cost much...and paint it..you could walk in paint and do footprints whatever..before you paint it..you do the no sew on the edges with an iron so it doesnt fray..do fabric paint and you can throw it in the washer...you could also do these big pictures of words we have seen lately at stores...like love....harmony..and they are just the word done on black canvas..and the letters are all different and they use different colors to paint and different designs polkadots etc..they run around 25-30 bucks..the thing is some paint and few canvas's you could do your own and personalize them....good luck
