Sardinia Holiday Houses: a Great Alternative to Hotels in Sardinia
Sardinia holiday houses are a terrific way to experience all of the culture, history, and tradition that this island has to offer. While renting Sardinia holiday houses is certainly not for everyone, there are some great benefits for others.
Many of these homes are for sale as well. If you spend a significant amount of time vacationing here, this could be a good option. The Sardinia holiday houses are available throughout the island. Some are in the major cities, but you can also find some rather secluded ones, such as in the foothills of the island mountains.
Most of the Sardinia holiday houses are actually considered villas and you will find them available from the very small and quaint to the extravagant. Many have in ground pools, bath houses, quest quarters, and gourmet kitchens. There are even some available with tennis courts. Depending upon the money you want to spend, Sardinia holiday houses can provide you with the comfort and accommodations meant for royalty.
How to Find Sardinia Holiday Houses
So how do you find these Sardinia holiday houses? It’s really rather simple. There are several websites online that can help you, as well as local real estate companies. Some of these villas are almost like a time share offering, while others allow for year around rentals. Many of the Sardinia holiday houses are fully furnished, right down to the dishes and the linens.
If you are searching for Sardinia holiday houses in a specific area of the island, there are several resources available to help you. You will find the people of Sardinia can be a great help as well. They are warm and friendly. If you want to spend some time searching, many of the websites that deal specifically with Sardinia holiday houses can set up meeting with their rental and sales personnel.
Wine, Dine, Shop & Relax in Sardinia
What does Sardinia have to offer you? The climate is very typical of the Mediterranean. It is hot, dry, and windy during the summer and most of the winter months are very mild. There are numerous ruins to visit, as well as underwater adventures. Diving is very popular on Sardinia and there are thousands that gather here to explore the ocean around the island.
The food is simply outstanding in most restaurants and you will find that people tend to linger over dinner to enjoy that second bottle of wine. Relaxing with friends is a way of life on the island and you will easily leave the stress of your homeland where it belongs.
Shopping is rather remarkable as well. There are many open air markets. Nearly every major city hosts a daily food market, which highlights most of the fish and seafood common to Sardinia. You will also find a wide array of fresh vegetables, fruits, and homemade breads and pastas. For those that love fine art, many of the markets will showcase local artists in all mediums, and you can really scoop up some great deals.
For those of you that love to be on the ocean, there are numerous harbors, with grand, expensive yachts. However, if that is not quite within your budget, you will find excursions and tours out into the sea almost at every seaside town.
In most cases, you will find that most Sardinia holiday houses will be temporary rentals; however, there are many for sale. In an area where Julia Roberts, Sting, and Naomi Campbell all come to relax and unwind, you may find a hefty price tag attached. That’s why you need to go through a good broker or agent to help you find the best deals when you are looking for Sardinia holiday houses.

Buying Gifts All The Time?
Are you one of those people who always have gifts at your house?
I am. Anytime I see something nice on sale or something cute, I get it. Like if I see cute baby outfits, rattles, baby toys, bottles, baby lotions on sale or just really cute I get them and my children don't usually need more things, so I put them downstairs in a special closet I have. Same with children's books, perfumes, lotions, nail polishes, inexpensive jewelry ($30 or so), art supplies, blankets, crayons, etc. It has saved me many times actually. Like some friends from out of town will suddenly pop in or an extra child will show up at a party or during the holidays people visit. Or if someone has a baby but not a baby shower, when we visit them, I can bring like some bottles and an outfit. Then we always have something for them.
So, just wondering does anyone else do this? Or am I weird?
LOL, I thought I was the only crazy person... ha ha. All you ladies have made me feel so much better about my impulse buying, When ever I find something I want to buy for these reasons my husband thinks I'm insane... Mind you I have got some small things I bought years ago still sitting in a suitcase under my bed! But dont stress Mummy of 8 I think there alot more Closet shoppers out there than we both realised

What Are the Differences Between a Cruiser, Destroyer, Frigate, Corvette and Gunboat?
The way warships are classified tends to be controversial, and there is no set definition for the meaning of a term. Everyone have their own views with their ships. For example Russian destroyers on which I served for many years are known as SNF (Soviet Naval Frigate) in USSR. Since modernisation of navies size of the ship doesn't matter in classifying the ships. However size was the main factor in the early days in classification. Secondly weapon carried and purpose of ship.
The World's Navies classifies the ships as follows:
Cruisers: +10,000 tons
Light Cruisers: 5000 to 10,000 tons
Destroyers: 3000 to 4000 tons
Frigates: 1100 to 3000 tons
Corvettes: 500 to 1100 tons
FAC: +25 Knots
Large PC: 100 to 500 tons
Coastal PC: -500 tons
There are, however, some nearly "standard" classifications that can be applied to most major warships. The designations listed here attempt to be "universal" to the greatest degree possible. Keep in mind that many nations chose to "do things their own way" at one time or another. A typical destroyer built during WWII and still in service and would still be classified as a destroyer, but it would be more similar to a modern frigate, corvette or offshore patrol vessel depending on its level of modernization.
In the British Navy the pendent number is written with an alphabet in front which distinguish what type ship it is.
A - Auxiliary
B - Battleship
C - Cruiser
D - Destroyer
F - Frigate
M - Minesweeper
N - Minelayer
R - Aircraft Carrier
S - Submarine
H - Hydrographic Vessel
L - Amphibious Warfare
P - Fast Patrol Boat
Cruisers: Cruisers are an extremely large and varied group.
Guided Missile Cruiser: Modern guided missile cruisers generally have only one of the traditional cruiser roles--they are either offensive or defensive, but not both. Typically offensive ships are equipped with heavy anti-ship missile batteries; defensive ships have anti-aircraft missiles to defend task forces. Neither type is truly capable of independent offensive operations as traditional cruisers were. A few guided missile cruisers have combined the offensive and defensive batteries in one large hull.
Destroyers: The destroyers have seen numerous changes in role over the years, as can be seen from the descriptions below
Definitions based on size comparison (i.e. a destroyer is larger than a frigate but smaller than a cruiser) and displacement have become meaningless in this category and the same will likely happen to the escort classes (corvettes and frigates) in the next two decades.
Destroyer: (DD/DDG(Destroyer /Guided Missile Destroyer) Small, fast, heavily armed escorts intended to protect the battle fleet, Carriers from enemy surface, air or undersea threats, depending on the era. Destroyers originated as "torpedo-boat destroyers", intended to sink enemy torpedo boats. Anti-submarine warfare was added when submarine became a threat. As aircraft became more important the destroyers added an anti-aircraft role. Destroyers are primarily defensive in nature and generally operate in groups rather than independently. In a modern context, DDs are the major anti-submarine ships and DDGs are anti-aircraft ships, but they retain multi-mission capabilities.
In addition to these defensive capabilities, it can support strike operations with long-range gunfire and land-attack missiles. It is this strike ability, mostly with Tomahawk missiles, that distinguish destroyers from frigates.
Frigates: Frigates are larger than corvettes. They are about the same size or just smaller than. Frigates today are multi-purpose platforms capable of long-range, long-endurance independent low and medium intensity missions. They are with advanced weapons, sensors and computer processing ability to defeat multiple air, surface and subsurface threats simultaneously and surviving in a high intensity environment. Stealth frigates are getting popular in the many navies.
Corvette is a small, maneuverable, lightly armed warship, originally smaller than a frigate and larger than a coastal patrol craft, although many recent designs resemble frigates in size and role.Corvette Small, generally slow escort-type vessel, generally intended for ASW. They are also sufficiently habitable and have the endurance for long-range operations. Best suited for coastal work but sometimes employed as a seagoing vessel. Often seem to be heavily armed for their size, but generally are lacking in things like sensors, electronics, reloads, range and accommodations.
Corvettes have a displacement between 540 and 2,750 long tons (and measure 180-330 feet (55-100 meters) in length. They are usually armed with medium- and small-caliber guns, surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, and underwater warfare weapons
FAC: Fast attack craft are smaller than corvettes and distinguishable from similar sized patrol craft by their higher speed (at least 25 knots). They are distinguishable also from inshore vessels by size, being around 50m in length, whereas the smaller craft are 30m or less. Due to their small size, FAC specialise in one discipline and cannot be considered multi-purpose platforms. Most are optimised for surface warfare using missiles and guns, and increasingly rarely, torpedoes.
Battleships: Battleships were the primary warships in the era of ship-to-ship combat with guns. They were equipped with the largest and greatest number of guns possible, and were heavily armored to protect them from similar enemy ships. Battleships were intended to engage in ship-on-ship or fleet-on-fleet combat with forces of enemy battleships. Battleship armor was generally heavy enough to protect the ship against it's own main armament
Offshore Patrol Vessel: (OPV) Modern classification for vessels similar in purpose to the 3rd class cruisers. Intended for duty in areas requiring presence but not major fighting power. Vessels tend to be optimized for good seakeeping, long range, good accommodations, easy maintenance and reliability. Generally slow and seemingly underarmed for their size
The World's Navies classifies the ships as follows:
Cruisers: +10,000 tons
Light Cruisers: 5000 to 10,000 tons
Destroyers: 3000 to 4000 tons
Frigates: 1100 to 3000 tons
Corvettes: 500 to 1100 tons
FAC: +25 Knots
Large PC: 100 to 500 tons
Coastal PC: -500 tons

Holidays to the Mediterranean Coast Bring Bright Adventures
There are many great things to do and explore when experiencing new holidays to the Mediterranean coast. You should find that not only are you exposed to great moments in history and incredible opportunities to study the past but also the opportunity to enjoy some of the things that we enjoy most about the modern world in which we live. When the past comes to life right before your very eyes you will find that there are many worlds to explore. Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Then start making your plans to visit the Mediterranean coast of Turkey today. The sooner you begin making your plans the more likely you will be able to enjoy cheap holidays to your favorite Mediterranean destination.
Cheap holidays visiting the small towns and villages along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey are quite possible as you are not sharing the typical tourist markup that so many are exposed to when traveling to popular holiday hotspots. You will find plenty of little extras along the way that you are likely to want to explore. The Antalya Archaeological Museum is a great place to begin your explorations but they should definitely not end there. While you are there though you should find that you could explore for an entire day or longer and still find something new to enjoy. This museum has much to offer visitors that are young and old alike so be sure to include it on your itinerary – especially if you are taking holidays with children.
The ancient city of Perge is yet another grand adventure that you can enjoy when taking your holidays to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This city is different from many other ancient cities and ruins as there is both a Roman entrance to the city and a Greek entrance to the city. You can even explore the ancient baths in the city as well as the entrances. It may not be the best preserved of ancient cities but it is most definitely an interesting way to spend a day and take a step back in history. All that is required is a little bit of imagination and a good sense of direction (for getting there in the first place).
Another popular destination among those on holidays to the Mediterranean coast is Eternal Fire of Chimera and Mt. Olympus. While there are many mysteries surrounding both they remain popular points of interest centuries later and are still a major attraction among those visiting the area on holiday. There are plenty of windows to the past to explore along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey when on holiday that are not exactly expensive. Whenever you can find package deals that include lodging, travel, transportation from attraction to attraction, admission to various attractions, and a few meals in the process you may find a great way to save money on your overall travel expenses. Cheap holiday deals are made this way and can be incredibly exciting for those considering holidays to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

Hotels – Venice, an Introduction
The quintessential hallmark images of Venice with its elegant buildings, meandering canals, romantic boats (known as Gondolas) and narrow streets that have been popularised through film and literature are all a true representation of what you can expect.
The once semi-swamp land was first inhabited sometime during the 5th and 6th century by inhabitants fleeing the barbaric invasions that followed the fall of the Roman Empire. It was these founders that drove the original foundations into the dark mud, the very foundations that now support the 117 islands that make up the unique floating city of Venice.
The city is divided into six zones, divided more by their character than strict boundaries. Dursoduro comprises the university district; Cannaregio, the historic area; San Marco, the Basilica and world famous Piazza; San Polo is where most of the locals live and socialise; Castello hosts the Venice Arts Festival; and Santa Croce is home to the train station.
Past generations of Venice earned a living trading silk and spices which returned incredible riches, which were spent crafting the city’s elegant buildings, easily some of the most beautiful throughout Europe. Examples of this include Doge’s Palace, which now serves as a museum and the stunning St Mark’s Square, Venice’s landmark and gathering place.
Over the decades the city’s popularity has soared, and the number of tourists now outnumbers that of its locals, making the more popular areas somewhat cramped during the peak months. This has led to a great deal of tourists choosing to visit the city out of season.
Venice is the world’s pedestrian only city, and probably the only city in the world where the entire public transport system is based on water. The city is best suited to those who do not mind walking, as this and the boats are the only forms of transport throughout the city.
Even though it is a vast city, with much to see, it is possible to get from one end of the main region to the other on foot in under an hour. Water boats can range dramatically, depending which you opt for and it is best to ask before boarding.
Hotels in Venice can easily work out more expensive than the average European city. There is a broad range of hotels on offer though, and booking your hotel in advance will help a great deal.

Italy Greece & Istambul in July?
We might be going to Italy Greece and Istambul next year from July 2-July 28. We would go to Rome for a week. Venice for 3 days. Athens for a week and Istambul for a week.
Is the weather miserable in July?
Also is Istambul agood place to visit?
Are there any more places we can't miss?
Is it easier/cheaper for my dad to get a European drivers liscense or just take a cab/train everywhere?
Any realllly cheap airlines?
Thanks!!
It may be miserable if you can't stand the heat. All of those places will be hot in July.
Istanbul is fantastic, although you may find a week is too long. Make sure you visit Topkapi Palace and you can't miss the Aga Sofyia (cathedral converted into a mosque) or the main bazaar. A cruise out into the Bosphorous is pleasant too.
Perhaps you could spend a few days in Florence, between Rome & Venice, and slightly reduce your time in Istanbul. The museums / art galleries are well worth seeing and are very different to what you will see in Rome and Venice.
I definitely suggest using public transport - parking in these cities isn't easy.
As for getting between countries, I suggest you talk to a travel agent to get the best deals for flights. You don't say which country you are flying from but if it's the UK, someone like Trailfinders should be able to help and they may be able to book trains too.

The Best Attractions For Family Holidays in South Africa
There's no doubting that South Africa holidays make for a great break abroad. The culture is different, there's plenty to see and do and the weather is perfect - especially when compared to the wet and cold that UK summers often present! There's also plenty for families to do on holiday in South Africa, especially if they're interested in wildlife. Here's a list of some of the highlights:
Aquariums with a Twist
There are a number of aquariums for South Africa's holiday makers to visit, but the factor that separates them from their UK counterparts is that some allow visitors to dive in some of the areas to get closer than ever before! It should be pointed out that the aquariums are understandably particular about who they allow to dive (you must have reached a certain level of qualification), but even if you have not reached that level, the sheer number of tropical fish makes the aquariums well worth a visit. The best of them are Two Oceans Aquarium (Cape Town) and Ushaka Marine World (Durban).
Gold Reef City
South Africa holidays may not be the main focus for theme park enthusiasts, but Gold Reef City (located just outside of Johannesburg) is a great choice if your kids have a hankering for rollercoasters during your trip! The rides at the park range from those aimed at smaller children (run-away train, giant wheel) through the water based drenchers (Miner's revenge, Raging River Rapids, The River Ride) all the way up to The Anaconda - a rollercoaster full of ludicrous loops and twisting turns. Those wanting a real challenge should sample the Tower of Terror - a ninety degree vertical plunge sure to terrify those bold enough to try it...
Wildlife and Fantastic Reserves
With so many exotic animals indigenous to the continent, it's no surprise that South African game reserves and wildlife sanctuaries are amongst the very best in the world, and have an excellent record for looking after the creatures. In particular, the Kruger National Park will provide an unforgettable experience for any visitors. Covering nearly 20,000 km2, the park contains more species of mammals than any other game reserve on the continent and is unparalleled in sheer numbers too, with over 9,000 giraffes, 3,000 hippos and 32,000 Burchell's zebras!
If your children love monkeys (and what child doesn't?) then Monkeyland on the Garden Route is also an absolute must. It's a sanctuary that allows its wide selection of primates to roam free throughout the facility without cages. The thrill here for visitors therefore is to find the animals without having to rely on a map telling them where each species should be! This should be high on any South Africa family holiday itinerary.
Brilliant Beaches
It's no surprise that, with its long coast line and excellent weather, beaches in South Africa are excellent. With so many of them to choose from, there's something for everyone whether you're looking for sun-soaked solitude, plentiful beach games or active water sports. There's even whale watching, which is a great way to spend time with your children, and those old enough will doubtless want the opportunity to surf like the pros!
With one of the best climates in the world, South Africa family holidays looking to focus on the golden sands should head directly to the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Even in winter you'll find warm sea and weather - the perfect thing for escaping those winter blues.
The truth is that a luxury holiday in South Africa can be an amazing experience no matter what your circumstances are. If your family finds wildlife, theme parks and beaches a big draw when visiting a country then South Africa makes for the perfect holiday location.

If I became a vet, what's the chances of working in Africa?
Is this type of 'exotic' job very competitive in vet world?
i would imagine that the locals do not care to much about pets..let alone spend money on them...they have a hard enough time surviving themselves.
