Where can I frame (at a decent price) an oil painting in Cincinnati?

I purchased two oil paintings in the Dominican Republic. One is 30 x 40 and another 12 x 32. I went to several places, including Michaels and they are charging $600 to put them on a stretcher, including a fabric mat and frame, which is more than what I paid for the paintings ($400). I paid a lot less for art framing in Miami!

Michaels Craft Stores and Frame and Saves are all around the city call each and see who has what you want at the price you want. Micheals usually has a coupon for like 20-40 % off framing in the paper once every few weeks.

It happens all the time. Debt collectors try to collect on debts that consumers have no knowledge of or never owed in the first place. So, what do you do when a bill collector demands payment in full on a debt that you never knew existed? You need to request a validation of debt.

A validation of debt is a request for proof that the collection agency that is contacting you owns the debt/or has been assigned the right to collect the debt on behalf of an original creditor. A validation of debt also includes a complete payment history, starting with the original creditor, and a copy of the original signed loan agreement or credit card application. This may be a debt you really owe or possibly a debt that was sent to collections by mistake. Either way, debt collectors can be very unapproachable. It is important to remember that you also have rights. According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Paragraph 809, - Validation of Debts:

"(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing:

(1) the amount of the debt;

(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;

(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;

(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and

(5) a statement that, upon the consumer's written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor.

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

(c) The failure of a consumer to dispute the validity of a debt under this section may not be construed by any court as an admission of liability by the consumer.

Value of an original signed Monet painting?

I'm curious about the value of an original signed Monet painting, not poster. Could anyone give me an approximate value? I know someone who has one of his paintings, but she doesn't want to visit a curator yet for an estimate. So does anyone have an idea? Kthanks (:

An original Claude Monet is worth so much that appraisal costs are immaterial.
Here is a painting that has been in private hands since 1936 and sold for over 18 million pounds.(That converts to $27,620,000 on today's exchange rate.)

Christie's has sent representatives to my house in Ohio to look at, and give an initial evaluation of works worth much, much less than a Monet, packed and shipped them to NY and paid for the final appraisal and authentication. Of course I listed with them. Swan gallery has done the same thing. Any reputable gallery will be tremendously helpful to your friend. If your friend has a Monet galleries will be more than helpful. The art market is soft right now, but the very top works from the super stars demand high prices anytime.

Contrary to popular rhetoric, buffing wax onto new automotive acrylic paint is not the best way to preserve the color and shine of your paint. In fact it is the beginning of the end of your factory shine.

How much can I sell my painting for?

Its not too big, about 12x24" and is on thin wood, with a coat of gesso.
Its done in acrylics and features brightly coloured, curled and dry fall leaves blowing in the "wind" in space on a very dark blue background, with stars scattered and earth in one corner.

This is one of my first full paintings, an original, and I am 16 years old.

Unframed student "fantasy" art does not enjoy a huge demand. . . in fact art in general is not selling well right now. You may be able to sell it, but if you really want to sell your art the best thing you could do is to make sure when you offer it that potential buyers might actually get to see what it looks like!

My experience is that student art tends to bring about 20% of the price that an established artist might get. But again, not seeing the image, or knowing what kind of wood you used, whether you sealed it before gessoing it (it will still leach acids form the wood even when gessoed, discoloring the paint as it ages) , or being able to not only see your work but whether it has artistic merit (composition, color use, values, balance, etc.) . . . hard to say.

Prof. Oliver Schaeffer and Postdoctoral Fellow John Funkhouser were part of the team that announced the first dating of the age of the Moon to be about 4 billion years. This was based on the rock samples brought back by the Apollo 11 astronauts, the first humans to walk on the Moon, in July, 1969. These findings, the first scientific report based on analysis of lunar material actually retrieved from the Moon, were reported in the September 19, 1969, issue of Science under the authorship of "The Lunar Sample Preliminary Examination Team," of which Prof. Schaeffer was a member. They were presented in a much more extensive form at a Lunar Science Conference of all mission investigators in Houston and published in an extraordinary 380-page "Moon Issue" of Science on January 30, 1970.

Stony Brook's team, led by Oliver Schaeffer, determined the concentration and isotopic signature of argon gas contained in lunar samples. They combined these data with potassium concentrations for the same samples to derive an age of about 4 billion years for the Moon. This initial determination by the Stony Brook-led team has been corroborated by several other research teams using complementary techniques. Obtaining the age of the moon, our nearest neighbor, is a scientific milestone that has deepened our understanding of the early history of Earth and helped set boundaries for dating the origin of life on Earth.
How was the Moon formed and how did it come to have its present orbit around the Earth?

There are five dominant theories which have been proposed for the formation of the Moon.

1.The Fission Theory: The Moon was once part of the Earth and somehow separated from the Earth early in the history of the Solar System. The present Pacific Ocean basin is the most popular site for the part of the Earth from which the Moon came.

2.The Capture Theory: The Moon was formed somewhere else, and was later captured by the gravitational field of the Earth.

3.The Condensation Theory: The Moon and the Earth condensed together from the original nebula that formed the Solar System.

4.The Colliding Planetesimals Theory: The interaction of earth-orbiting and Sun-orbiting planetesimals (very large chunks of rocks like asteroids) early in the history of the Solar System led to their breakup. The Moon condensed from this debris.

5.The Ejected Ring Theory: A planetesimal the size of Mars struck the earth, ejecting large volumes of matter. A disk of orbiting material was formed, and this matter eventually condensed to form the Moon in orbit around the Earth.

A detailed comparison of the properties of Lunar and Earth rock samples has placed very strong constraints on the possible validity of these hypotheses. For example, if the Moon came from material that once made up the Earth, then Lunar and Terrestrial rocks should be more similar in composition than if the Moon was formed somewhere else and only later was captured by the Earth.

These analyses indicate that the abundances of elements in Lunar and Terrestrial material are sufficiently different to make it unlikely that the Moon formed directly from the Earth.

Generally, work over the last 10 years has essentially ruled out the first two explanations and made the third one rather unlikely.

At present the fifth hypothesis, that the Moon was formed from a ring of matter ejected by collision of a large object with the Earth, is the favored hypothesis; however, the question is still a matter for discussions in the scientific environment and there are many details remaining to the accounted for.

Is it possible to make a digital print on a mixed media canvas?

I am looking into an original way to print out my digital art. I was wondering if it were possible to prepare a canvas using different papers glued to it as well as oil or acrylic paints, and then getting a printer to print the image on top of it, for example, a digital print of a girl on a paper and paint background. Has this been done before, and if not, would it be possible with the use of opaque inks or some other techniques?

Each paper going through the printer must have a sizing on it. The ink will most likely skip over the oil paint. Be sure to adjust the printer for the thickness of all the papers being printed on. There is "canvas" made for the printer. I've used "PhotoFabric" 100% cotton twill with good results. It even is available in silk. A good resource for specialty papers is Ebson.
