History and Travel Destinations in France
Travellers on their way to France can witness many exotic monuments. Visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum?
Approximately how much is admission to places such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum in France? I am in the early stages of planning a trip (I live in the U.S.), and the price package includes only airfare and lodging, and I would like to know how much I need to add to my budget to cover such things as visiting tourist attractions.
If you plan on seeing a lot of the museums, you'll want to purchase a Museum Pass. This will allow you to wander through a large list of museums and you won't have to pay to see each one. If you only plan on seeing one or two, than this isn't the way you'd want to go, but worth looking into if you plan on doing many. It covers over 60 museums, monuments (such as Arc De Triomphe), and other attractions.

If you check the link, you can see how much some of the individual museum costs are. Also, keep in mind as you do your research that some of the museums have free days. Like the Louvre has no admission on the first Sunday of the month (or something like that).
The Eiffel Tower isn't included on the pass, but the ticket prices will depend on which level you want to go too, if you want to do the elevator for the whole thing or if you walk part and elevator part (you can't walk all the way to the top). The link below will give you your ticket option.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris needs no presentation, it is one the most well known monuments in the world visited by more than 5 million people each year. Built 1889 for the Universal Exhibition in celebration of the French Revolution. Height 324 m.
Essentially, the structure of the Eiffel Tower—which was a far-ranging extrapolation of Eiffel's spidery, wrought-iron bridge pylons—could not have been more simple: four immense, tapering, curved, lattice-girder piers that meet asymptotically. These piers rise from an immensely broad square base—125 meters on a side—and are laced together at two levels by connecting girders to form an integral unity of great stability.
History
The Eiffel {y'-ful} Tower, an immense structure of exposed latticework supports made of puddle iron, was erected for the Paris Exposition of 1889. The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII of England) officiated at the ceremonial opening. Of the 700 proposals submitted in a design competition, one was unanimously chosen, a radical creation from the French structural engineer Alexander Gustave Eiffel (b. Dec. 15, 1832, d. Dec. 28, 1923), who was assisted in the design by engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier, and architect Stephen Sauvestre.
Shape of the tower
At the time the tower was built many people were shocked by its daring shape. Eiffel was criticized for the design and accused of trying to create something artistic, or inartistic according to the viewer, without regard to engineering. Eiffel and his engineers, as renowned bridge builders however, understood the importance of wind forces and knew that if they were going to build the tallest structure in the world they had to be certain it would withstand the wind.
There are elevators in the tower that can take you to the top. Double-decked elevators to the first and second levels are specially designed to ascend along the steep incline of the tower’s legs. More conventional double-decked glass elevators take you from the second level up to the summit. Since the tower is build of open ironwork, the ascent can be a very harrowing experience for anyone with a fear of heights, so beware!
The Eiffel Tower in Paris is re-painted every 7 years and it takes around 6 tons of paint to complete it, just to stop this monument from rusting. There are three levels in all. At the south towers base a ticket booth sells tickets to use the stairs, which begin at that location and the first and second levels are accessible by both stairs and lifts. But the third level summit is only accessible by lift. On the first platform, the stairs continue up from the east tower.
Only one worker was killed in building the Eiffel Tower. It was created to celebrate the anniversary of the French revolution. After the celebration it was saved from being demolished by being turned into a radio transmitter. As it has gotten older pavilions, an elevator, and other structures on the first and second floor. They have also added covers to protect people from rain.
Gustave Eiffel
The man behind the Eiffel Tower was Gustave Eiffel, known from his revolutionary bridge building techniques, as employed in the great viaduct at Eiffel Tower in the evening Garabit in 1884. These techniques would form the basis for the construction of the Eiffel Tower. He was also known for the construction of the Statue of Liberty's iron framework. The structure took more than two years to complete.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the tower has been used for radio transmission. Until the 1950s, an occasionally modified set of antenna wires ran from the summit to anchors on the Avenue de Suffren and Champ de Mars. They were connected to long-wave transmitters in small bunkers; in 1909, a permanent underground radio centre was built near the south pillar and still exists today. On 20 November 1913 the Paris Observatory, using the Eiffel Tower as an antenna, exchanged sustained wireless signals with the United States Naval Observatory which used an antenna in Arlington, Virginia.

how much is it for Taxi from Paris Airport to Eiffel tower and then back to airport?
k im going on a trip next Tuesday, from Toronto To Tehran, and we have a stop at Paris for 7 hours which is boring lol, so we were thinking to go see the Eiffel tower. but wondering how much would it cost from Airport to Eiffel tower, and waiting there to take some pics and stuff and then back to airport? i THINK the airport is called CHARLES DE GAULLE, but not too sure, if any1 else knows which airport a flight from toronto would land, let me know, thanks
When you say you have 7 hours consider that:
1. It will take an hour or so to deplane and clear passport control if you are a Canadian citizen. If you are an Iranian citizen you require a visa that must be obtained BEFORE you enter France.
2. No matter how you travel from the airport to the Eiffel tower you should expect to spend an hour of travel each way.
3. You must return to the airport 2 hours prior to departure.
Therefore 1 hour to deplane and clear passport control + 2 hours travel to and from the airport + return 2 hours prior to departure = 5 hours
If you hadn't considered these times then you really have no more than 2 hours.

A Quick Tour Of Paris - The Eiffel Tower And Friends
While the seventh arrondissement is located on the Seine River's Left Bank and the eighth arrondissement is on its Right Bank, they are more closely related to each other than they are to their neighbors on the same side of the river. They are major employment and tourist centers, posh residential areas, and home to the French National Assembly, the Palais Bourbon.
The Eiffel Tower is perhaps Paris's best-known landmark, recognized all over the world. This magnificent structure, once the world's tallest and still the most visited, attracts over six million paying visitors a year. It was erected between 1887 and 1889 for a World's Fair honoring the French Revolution. Supposedly the French writer Guy de Maupassant ate lunch there every day, because it was the only Paris location where he couldn't see the tower.
The Hotel Matignon, completed in 1725, is one of Paris's most elegant mansions. During World War II it was a headquarters of the collaborationist government. General de Gaulle convened the government there in 1944 and once again in 1958.
The Champ de Mars was once used for military training. It was the site of both a festival and a bloody massacre during the French Revolution. The Ecole Militaire was founded by Louis XV to enable poor boys to become cadet officers. Napoleon Bonaparte is its best-known graduate. The Invalides complex, first built as a retirement home for war veterans, now includes a soldiers' hospital, war monuments, and war museums. Napoleon Bonaparte and his family are buried there. For a change of pace visit the Rodin Museum which displays many of his works as well as masterpieces by Van Gogh, Claudel, and others.
The Paris Institute of Political Studies is one of France's greatest educational institutions. Many French leaders such as Chirac and Mitterand, thirteen former prime ministers and a whole slew of world leaders are former students, teachers or both.
L'Eglise de la Madeleine church was built to honor Napoleon's army. Its organ is top of the line; the famous composers Camille Saint-Saens and Gabriel Faure were church organists. I am told that this is THE place to have your wedding and funeral.
The Elysee Palace is the President of the French Republic's official residence and holds meetings of the Council of Ministers. The gardens host a presidential party on July 14th. The Arc de Triomphe monument honoring French soldiers sits in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle at the western end of the Champs-Elysees. It is the second tallest such monument in the world. The nearby traffic circle serves twelve very busy avenues. I have heard that you can find a replica at the Paris Las Vegas resort but don't plan a visit to confirm.
You'll find the Art Nouveau Theatre des Champs-Elysees a few several blocks from that avenue. In 1913 its initial performance of Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring quickly degenerated into a full-scale riot. The Grand Palace is a large glass Art Deco exhibition hall built for the Paris Exhibition of 1900. The Little Palace across the street is home to an art museum, the Musee des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris.

Paris is Safe and Well, Thank You!
If you watched CNN or Fox News like I did a few evenings ago, you might have been impressed at the student demonstrations in France.
Both TV channels had us sold on the idea Paris was being mobbed by the angry multitude. Pictures of Mad Max-like police trucks hosing thousands of protesters. Scenes of massive gatherings around Bastille square. Interviews of malcontent students. Some pyrotechnics to boot!

Though I often travel to Paris, I live in Florida. So I had to wait until the following day before I could call relatives and friends in Paris. I got Vince first. Vince is always a reliable source, he's got the local pulse. When I need to get the lowdown on all-things-Paris, I get it from him first.
"Hi Vince, it's Phil. Gee, how is it today? Have you lived through the night?
"Hi man, what are you talking about?
"Well, I mean, the demonstrations and all. The mayhem.
"Oh yeah, so what about them?
"Well, I was on CNN yesterday, and they were showing all this mess with the police, and students, and cars burning!
"And?
"Come on, man, you can't tell me nothing is happening there!
"Well, there was a demonstration, for sure. Students in the streets. But this was yesterday....
"You mean, it's over?
"Sure, buddy. Guys didn't like what the government handed over, guys got in the street, guys vented their anger, guys go home and watch TV, end of story.
"Oh. But about the cars torched? I mean, we saw it on TV!
"To hell with TV! You see a couple of cars burning, and you think it's the war?
OK, that was Vince's input. Kind of reassuring.
Let's ring family. I wanted to talk to Lolo, my brother in law. Lolo was an army firefighter for 15 years, he's cool-calm-collected, and he's used to assessing disasters with a cold eye.
"Lolo? Hi, it's Phil.
"Hi bro, whassup?
"Hey, I just wanted to hear it from you, you know, about the demonstrations, and the mess in Paris.
"Yeah, that was sporty.
"You mean, they wreaked havoc in the place?
"No, I mean it was sporty to get to work on my scooter. I mean, some of the streets near the Bastille Square were jam-packed.
"But what about the protests? I mean, they showed us the stuff on TV; it looked like mayhem with the cops and their trucks!
"That was towards the evening, not during the day. I was not far from the demonstrations when they were full on. The students sure were a loud crowd, but the hosing only started in the evening, and only lasted a couple hours.
"What about the cars burned?
"There were a few. Less than in November, during the events in the suburbs.
"Not many then. And how is it now?
"Quiet. Everybody's home, like nothing happened.
"Do you mean the demonstrations are over?
"Sure. I rode in Paris today, and it was business as usual.
"Is it safe for Americans to come? You know I have this website, Paris-Eiffel-Tower-News.com, and I give travel advice to people. Is it safe for them, or should I just tell my visitors to postpone their travel plans to Paris?
"It's just as quiet today as it was before the demonstrations. Come see yourself if you don't believe me."
Oh I sure believed Lolo, he having served 15 years as a firefighter in the army, and saved several lives. He used to serve in Paris too, so he knows the place like the back of his hand.
But I figured: I'm not gonna risk sending the visitors of my website to Destination Hell. I want proof. Solid proof that it's all over, and there's nothing bad happening now in Paris.
So I called Serge and Tony, two friends who are in the video business.
"Guys, could you do me a favor, and shoot a short video for my visitors, with the time and date on it? I wanna see Paris as it is today.
Serge and Tony are very cool guys, and they sure obliged.

It was shot in Paris, between 1:00 and 2:00 PM on April 3, 2006, in various well-known places: under the Eiffel Tower, on the Alma Bridge, on the Champs Elysees Avenue, on Place de la Concorde, at St Germain des Pres, on St Michel Blvd, near the Cluny museum, at the Notre Dame Cathedral, on the Cite island, near the Louvre and Orsay museums, near the Opera house, and finally, right in the department store neighborhood.
What it shows is exactly how Paris is at this time. Business as usual.
So how come we have seen such a mess on TV, and there seems to be no trace of it today?
For one thing, student protests rarely last. They are put together quickly, and dissolve even quicker. What we saw on CNN and other news channels was a live-fast-die-fast occurrence.
What's more, TV and the news media rarely report quiet endings. 'News' is drama, war, atrocities, and the like. Uneventful endings never make the news.
The student protests of March 28 were filmed until everybody just went back home after sunset. Then they became much less newsworthy. Or so think the big honchos at CNN, Fox News, and the like. Don't forget folks, these guys think for y'all, the rabble. So shut up and watch.
Thirdly, the French are Mediterranean in character. An argument breaks, tempers flare quickly, bird names are exchanged, and suddenly it's all drama.... Then things resume their regular course, everybody shares a glass of wine, and the argument is soon forgotten.
The French government tried to pass a law which students and unions consider as a danger to job security. When the latter felt this law was forced into their gullets with no negotiations, their temper flared, and in no time they were down in the street. But it ended just as quickly as it all started. A flash in the pan. Within a day, it was over.
There is only one regrettable fact in this: heavy-handed, scandal-happy, war-loving news reporting gives us all a false impression that France is "a dangerous place to travel to these days."
Yet, had TV cameras continued rolling and spent just as much time showing Parisians had returned to their peaceful lives, such impression would have been quickly dispelled for what it really is: 100% false.
And so it is the privilege of regular Joes like me and other honest-to-God travelers to report the happy ending: everything is fine and dandy in Paris, folks. Live your lives as you plan them, and if you wish to travel to France, just don't bother too much with the news.
PS-- Paris is a big city. Demonstrations are mostly channeled along certain boulevards: Nation-to-Bastille, Nation-to-Italie, Bastille-to-Republique, and Bastille-to-Chatelet. Look them up on a map. Look at all the space around these spots. Well, that's your own playground in case new demonstrations occur when you are in Paris. A fact the news media conveniently omit to tell you. It wouldn't sell.

Was the original Eiffel Tower built in Paris or at Kings Island?
I heard some people debating and both had convincing arguments. Plz help me identify who was right.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is the original one, it was built for the 1889 World's Fair almost a century before its much smaller 1972 replica at Kings Island. There are a lot of smaller reproductions of it around the world but there is only one Eiffel Tower built by French 19th century metal designer & engineer Gustave Eiffel.
