The State of Nagaland was formally inaugurated on December 1st, 1963, as the 16th State of the Indian Union. It is bounded by Assam in the West, Myanmar (Burma) on the east, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam on the North and Manipur in the South. The State consists of seven Administrative Districts, inhabited by 16 major tribes along with other sub-tribes. Each tribe is distinct in character from the other in terms of customs, language and dress. There are 16 tribes in Nagaland. Each of the 16 odd tribes and sub-tribes that dwell in this exotic hill State can easily be distinguished by the colorful and intricately designed costumes, jewelers and beads that they adorn.
The present generations of Nagas have ventured into fashion designing in a big way, reproducing fabrics that represent the ancestral motifs blended with modern appeal. Indeed, it is a beautiful mix of the past with the present... a paradise for those who are into fashion designing. This is an affluent fashion station of the East. The traditional ceremonial attire of each tribe is in itself, an awe inspiring sight to behold; the multicolored spears and daos(a long Knife in our own dialect) decorated with dyed goats hair, the headgear made of finely woven bamboo interlaced with orchid stems, adorned with boar's teeth and hornbill's feathers, elephant tusk armlets...You name it! In days of yore every warrior had to earn each of these items through acts of valor, to wear them. Nature could not have been kinder to Nagaland, sometimes referred to as the Switzerland of the East; the exquisitely picturesque landscapes, the vibrantly colorful sunrise and sunset, lush and verdant flora...This is a land that represents unimaginable beauty, molded perfectly for a breath taking experience.

An Introduction to Canvas stretchers and canvas stretcher bars
If there is something that has not yet changed despite all technological advancements and progress, it is the image of an artist. Try imagining an artist for a second and you will not see a geek sitting in front of a computer (though computers are heavily being used these days). What you will visualize is a serene face lost deep in creative imagination, painting master strokes on a canvas with full confidence and control. The more imaginative of us may also see the muse sprawl on a couch with perfect poise and controlled randomness. What we all will definitely see, though we may not mention it initially, are the canvas stretchers. In fact, canvas stretchers bars are as indispensable to the scene as the sight of players when we imagine a baseball match going on in full swing.
What are canvas stretchers?
These bars are basically the wooden bars which are arranged to make a frame on which the artist can put his canvas for creative pursuits like oil painting or intricate needle work. The job of canvas stretchers bars is to keep the canvas taut and stretched so that undue wrinkle or folding do not mar or hamper the progress of artwork. In fact, many artists leave their finished and unfinished work on these bars to dry out or to complete later when they need to work on it. Typically, staples are used to attach the sides of the canvas on these bars, which are especially rounded-off for the purpose, and this keeps the surface of the canvas smooth and stretched. - Rectangular shapes are the most common because most of the artists prefer their artwork in landscape (width is more than length) or portrait (length is more than width or both are approximately equal) modes. The manufacturers of canvas stretchers make them in standard dimensions; however, they can also customize the dimensions on the request of the clients
- Oval and round shapes are another category. Though they are used only sporadically, still store owners keep them to meet special requests of their clients.

SILLY STRING on my car... how do u take the stain off?
well someone sprayed some silly string on my car, and wen i saw it i took it off but i guess the oil or what ever that was stayed on my paint and now it seems like its stained there forever. i tried using the clay bar but it didnt work. i think it might of went in to my paint since the sun has shined on it. anything i could do, to avoid getting a new paint job??
Try color back or mothers they are both good waxs maybe that will help

Acrylic painting beginner - what style is easiest?
I have decided to return to doing some art during the cold winter months and have bought a set of acrylic paints, canvases, and brushes. ( before I mostly did pencil drawings)
I have registered with an evening course with a professional artist which starts on Oct 22.
I have been reading up and found that acrylics can be used as oils and as watercolours, in pastato (or something like that!) by mixing sand etc.
I also do not want to do abstract or modern. I prefer landscapes, still life and animals.
Any tips from you would be great. Thanks
I just finished any acrylic class. Basically anything can be mixed with acrylics. That is you can use matte gel medium and mix in sand or you can buy one that is sand, mineral, black lava, or white opaque flakes. There is a good book called acrylic revolution that can show you some of the effects you can get with acrylic mediums. You can paint oil over acrylic, but not the other way around.

Chinese antique furniture general information: Ancient Chinese furniture has a fine reputation in modern China and the West alike, Chinese ancient furniture features profound cultural facts and superb craftsmanship. The furniture was mostly made from precious wood, in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1616-1911) dynasties. It is widely recognized as the best, because furniture before the Ming Dynasty did not survive wars and time, traditional Chinese furniture craftsmanship did not reach its zenith until the Ming Dynasty. It reached a high level of aesthetic success and could even claim a place in the history of world furniture.
Chinese furniture was usually lacquered red or black and then painted, and often carved and sometimes inlaid with other materials such as precious stones, etc.Ming Dynasty funiture is known for its simplicity with sparse lines and little decoration while Qing furniture emphasizes detail and extravagance. Furniture from southern China tends to be very elaborate whereas northern furniture is big, heavy and grand.
Ming Dynasty Furniture: Ming furniture is simple with sparse lines and little decoration. It usually features fine and durable precious woods, such as mahogany, sandalwood, rose wood etc. In the Ming Dynasty, the demand for fine furniture, the ample supply of wood and the highly developed tenon-mortise technology all facilitated the success of the Ming furniture. Craftsmen of the Ming Dynasty used the succinct language of art to express their inner feelings, and combined ingeniously with the beauty of simplicity and quietness. So the Ming furniture usually has simple structures, unique shapes and minimal decorations which would reserve the natural beauty of the wood. Lines were ingeniously applied to emphasize details such as the back of an armchair and the legs and resting bars of chairs and tables. Main emphasis was placed on the application of the natural beauty of the wood texture and adopting latticework and openwork carving. On eye-striking places such as the backs of armchairs, there would be simple patterns by relief engraving or openwork carving.
Qing Dynasty Furniture: In the early Qing Dynasty, furniture inherited characteristics of the Ming Dynasty, from the reign of Emperor Yongzheng to Emperor Jiaqing. After political power as stabilized and the economy improved, people began to pay more attention to more material things in there lives, and demanded decorative and luxurious furnishings, gaudiness and sumptuousness were a basic features of Qing furniture which was usually heavy and sizable, featuring exquisitely carved patterns. Some pieces were carved from head to foot and had inlays of stone, mother-of-pearl, porcelain, metal, and enamel. Qing furniture had curved decorations and exaggerated shapes that demanded attention. Chinese traditional furniture has a strong aesthetic appeal due to its apparently simple lines and the fact that it makes use of "natural materials" such as the finest hardwoods-no fusty stuffed couches here. Ready comparisons can be made to Danish furniture, with its sparse lines. With Chinese furniture, you see what you get. Nothing is hidden, and the wood is polished, stained or lacquered to evoke its natural earthiness and grainy patterns.Chinese furniture reached a pinnacle of fine design and workmanship from the sixteenth centuries, the later part of the Ming period. Fine furniture is characterized by restrained and elegant designs and complex joinery that held the furniture together without glue or nails.

I will absolutely NOT buy ANY items made in China regardelss of if they are toys or not. Putting a date rape drug in Aqua Dots was not a mistake and they have known for years the USA has banned lead paint, no, it is not a mistake on their part.

how do i remove black oil-based paint from oak furniture?
A couple of applications of a heavy paste stripper is probably best.
It allows you to "lift" the paint off in relatively dry slabs without creating black mud that will just get spread around & actually stain the wood.
The exposed grain will not release the paint as well as the harder parts.
Avoid scraping as much as possible as it will just force the residue into the grain.
If there is shellac or varnish under the paint , it will help ..
If you can get it reasonably clean, you can follow up with a solvent type gel or liquid stripper & plastic brushes.
A cheap paintbrish with the bristles cut down to about 1/2 inch works well.
Go with the grain & repeat as necessary.
When clients brought any black painted pieces into the shop I would ask them to be aware of the problems mentioned & have them sign off if they wanted me to proceed.
Your piece may clean up well, but be prepared for some work.
Do small sections, avoid sanding,use plastic tools & be patient.
