Oil Painting Day
when doing an oil painting how do I get the paints to dry - painted on canvas. Thanks?
My daughter did one 3 days ago for school project and still not dry.
Most colors should be dry to the touch within a week. It depends on the pigment, type of oil, quality and brand of paint. Painters wait 6 months for the paint to thoroughly dry before adding a final varnish.

If you have a raging case of "I never know what to say" whenever you see a guy that you're interested in--and it keeps your feet cemented to the floor while he walks out the door, there's a simple way to get rid of it: Be more talkative to the guys you're not interested in.
Here's why: If you can't talk to strangers you're not attracted to you'll never be able to talk to the strangers who you want a romantic relationship with.
If you can train yourself to talk to "low wattage" guys (men you're not interested in) then you'll be able to apply those skills to "high wattage" guys (men you'd leave home, family and career just to smell their dirty shorts).
Doing that requires one overriding goal: Be more talkative. With everyone everywhere for no apparent reason. To get you into the groove--and grow your confidence, I start out with simple exercises that help build the "talk muscles" you'll need to start a conversation with a hottie.
1. Say Hello to Strangerst
With everyone, everywhere, all of the time. Whether they look at you or not. Whether you think they'll say hello back or not. Oh, and you have to be the first one to say it.
You walk into an elevator. Hello. Someone passes you in the hall. How are you. You're standing in line at a movie. Hey. You're at the gas station. Hi. In line at the coffee shop. What's up. Talk to a new person EVERY DAY. Your target is everyone: The waiter, the Starbucks guy. Hello, hello, hello!
Goal: Get so used to saying hello to strangers that it becomes second-nature.
2. Go out of your way to say hello to acquaintancest
Make the physical effort to say hello when you'd normally wait for a more convenient time. I'm talking about that acquaintance on the other side of the coffee shop. You'd say hello if there weren't so many people in the place. Or that friend in the gym--you'll say hello when you get a chance. STOP. Move your body. Get up and say hello. Get used to acting immediately. Without thinking. This skill will pay handsome dividends. You'll understand why later.
Goal: Get used to acting spontaneously.
3. Make small talk with acquaintances you typically only say hello to.
You know that person you've been saying hello to, for like, years, and you've never had a proper conversation? Start one. Every time. Don't know how? Start by saying, "Hey, I was just thinking about you the other day. I noticed that _________ and I was wondering _________."
Example: "I noticed that you hang out at this coffee shop a lot and I was wondering if you're working on a book or something."
4. Pay Strangers a Compliment
Avoid general compliments ("You're beautiful") or sexual innuendos ("You're hot"). You're not trying to flatter or hit on them. Be specific and pick out details. His shoes, her posture, his energy, that ring. Leave after the compliment.
Goal: Show sincere appreciation for something you've spontaneously noticed; improve your observational skills.
Do these exercises and within just a few days you won't believe how much confidence you'll have to approach guys you're attracted to. Of course, that's just the first step. Is there any male gay fiction written by women?
I see a lot of male gay fiction written by men but hardly any that are written by women. Does anybody know any female authors that write strictly male gay fiction?
Poppy Z. Brite wrote a lot of horror books with gays in it. I only read Lost Souls (gay vampires) and Drawing Blood (gay couple/ poltergeist house). Especially Drawing Blood is a great book.

The Modern Look Of Art Deco Interior Design
Interior design is a profession with a long standing tradition. Everything from office buildings to private homes has been created using various design principles to give a wonderful, lasting impression of beauty and art. When considering how to redesign any interior space it is important to consider just what type of style you will incorporate into the plans right from the beginning. One of the most popular design aspects that has been used for many decades is known as art deco.
Initially art deco was used as a purely decorative style of design and was very popular during the 1920's and into the late 1930's. Back then it was viewed as functional, elegant as well as being ultra modern. Art deco is an extremely eclectic style, drawing influences from a variety of different sources. Some of them are considered primitive like Egyptian and African, even Aztec Mexico. Other include streamlined technology like aviation. Binding together with techniques routed in Cubism and Futurism, art deco has a wide range of functionality and expressiveness. A home decorator using this style can be free to do a huge variety of different things in the interior of a space.
The type of materials used in art deco interior design consist of stainless steel, lacquer, aluminum, inlaid wood, even sharkskin and zebra skin. Stemming from this use of harder, metallic materials is the celebration of the machine age. Art deco does this through the repetitive use of these man-made materials and also through symmetry. During the Great Depression the use of art deco saw its heyday because of its practicality and simplicity.
Although its popularity declined shortly after, it has recently enjoyed a rebirth in popularity and there is no reason not to utilize this style when planning any interior design. When you want a classic retro type of look go for art deco. There are so many examples of buildings that use art deco in their design like the Empire State Building, completed in 1931. Many art deco skyscrapers have been torn down but they can still serve as an amazing example of the power and majesty of this design style.
Art deco uses very strong, sharp angles in its application. Thick metal groves inlaid with heavy concrete and full bodied foundations characterize this style of design. When using it within the confides of your home or office building, keep in mind the effect you wish to portray with not only walls but the furniture as well. Because of both the Aztec and Egyptian influences, there is also a heavily pyramidal feeling to a lot of art deco buildings. A gradual step by step lessening of form can give the impression of strength and endurance. This was a great reason why art deco was so popular during the Great Depression. Today it can still have the same kind of impact.

Would love to hear your ideas about transforming my Bathroom.?
My house is 5 years old and has a very modern up to date bathroom that i just hate.It has a large square mirror with stainless steel frame , this also matches the shower.The basin is just pure white with matching doors and square stainless steel handles.The walls are painted grey and there is just some white tiles with a black and white border in the shower and around the bathtub.The window is large and above the tub and is blacked steel framed and clear glass (not frosted).The room also has 2 wall lights at end and both are square stainless steel with a white frosted cover....
Any one have some ideas they would like to share to make it more cosy and Art Deco theme?
There are plastic appliques available to put on the window. I purchased a real stained glass window to put in front of my plain glass window similar to the one in the second link. I purchased picture frame moldings and installed them around my stainless steel framed mirror. You can buy them prefinished or paint them with any number of faux finishes. I glued them to the glass.
Light fixtures and faucets are easily replaced. Visit a home center and look over what's available.

How To Determine The Value Of Antique Oil Paintings?
Antique Oil Paintings describe the story of a time gone by! They attract us because of its beauty and its value. Old things always cost more. Therefore, Antique Oil Paintings by renowned artists are indeed very expensive. Copies of famous and popular works by these artists are available in shops and museums and are easily recognized by most of the people around the world. Let's look more at antique oil paintings.
It is considered that oil painting was first used in Afghanistan in between the fifth and the ninth centuries. However, it did not get popular until sometime during the fifteenth century. Traditional artists use canvas made from Linen which was expensive. Other popular but less expensive canvases used by them were produced from cotton fabric.
Paintings by legendary artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Boticelli, Picasso, Michelangelo, etc. Are known for their style and beauty. These arts are not affordable by normal public. However, replicas of the famous paintings are being reproduced and are available at a less price. These can be found in antique shops and vintage stores. They are available for purchase at online stores too.
People who are not concerned about the authenticity, usually prefer forgeries or reproduced world classic paintings. Fake paintings are the curse of the masterpieces of the well-known artists. Chemical analysis and tests for determining the age and origin is the only way to prevent the forgeries.
The value of the painting is determined by its age. The age and origin of an oil painting can be calculated by chemical analysis of the paint used in the art. These tests can determine whether the painting is genuine or a forgery. To find out the age of the painting, there are many tests available; some of which can be done at home as well. Examples of these tests are evaluating the "craquelure" (checking the cracks on the paint layer), looking for the pigments and hue of the colors, checking the protective varnishes etc.
Understanding of the internal chemistry of oil paint systems at the different stages in their lifetime lets you test the authenticity of the oil paintings from your home. In older days, artists used to give a layer of varnishes to protect the painting. Analysing the material the painting was done on will give a picture about its age. Understanding the colors used, their combinations, theme of painting, any signature on the paint etc help us find out the period the work was done.
An alternative way to test an oil painting is to take it to an art specialist, or art gallery or art museum in your town. They will have professional ways of testing it and finding out the authenticity of the arts. They use technologies such as Infra Red Reflectography, Wood's light, Stereoscopic Microscope, etc to calculate the age of an art.
Traditional ways of sketching a work of art differentiates it from modern paintings and therefore antique oil paintings have their own place in the world of art.

Exotic Miami: From Art Deco to Decadent Art
Ever since the Art-Deco era of the 1930s, Miami has been an exotic location for a holiday; all-year round Florida sunshine, golden beaches and a pace of life to suit residents and visitors alike. This unique metropolis which bills itself as the ‘Magic City’ continues to be a massive tourist draw, offering luxury holidays in the best of settings.
As a major US hub at the gateway to the Americas, the city boasts a large port, which is the departure point for numerous cruise ships on their way to the nearby Caribbean. Close to the spectacular Everglades National Park, Miami is renowned for its unique culture, derived mainly from its celebrated ethnic diversity. The city certainly boasts an upbeat Latin feel, which is backed up by the 2000 census in which 60% of the population declared that they were Hispanic.
Miami was incorporated as a city in 1896, and has grown substantially since; now consisting of 13 major neighbourhoods. Covering a huge area of Southern Florida, as well as offering the seductive dual attraction of great beaches and sunny weather, Miami is also home to impressive culture, dazzling entertainment and a huge choice of shopping.
Bayside Marketplace offers an upmarket shopping experience set on the edge of the Port of Miami, off Biscayne Boulevard. There are over 150 fabulous shops and restaurants spread over the 16 acre open-air market, ranging from fabulous, little one-off boutiques to well-known, upmarket chains. In addition to the shopping and dining there is frequently thrilling, free entertainment on offer including Salsa and Cuban beat music.
Miami residents are generally very style-conscious and love art. The Miami Museum of Art reflects the make-up of the city, with a diverse range of genres on display and regularly hosts ground-breaking exhibitions that attract visitors in their tens of thousands. In addition, the Museum gives back to the community in the form of great educational initiatives, including morning lectures on the city’s diverse and dazzling architectural styles.
Some of the most luxurious and spectacular Miami hotels are found in South Beach and also along Collins Avenue, close to the Atlantic but not all hotels in Miami are restricted to the beaches. Indeed, they are spread across the city, many close to major attractions such as the Miami Art Museum, Design District and Spanish Monastery Cloisters, as well as the Downtown area.
Because the city is so spread out any potential visitor should ensure that they do their research and choose accommodation close to their particular area of interest, unless they are willing to hire a car.
