Where can I get bedding for my king sized bed?
I have an all red and black theme in my bedroom. I have an almost black rosewood king sized bed being made. I plan to buy a memory foam mattress, but need linens to cover it. Honestly, price is no object, I want the best. Only red and/or black. I would prefer the comforter/duvet be mostly/completely red, to stand out against the dark wood. An abstract pattern or oriental design would be perfect. I have checked overstock, amazon, bed bath and beyond, and the other sites that pop up in google. I eventually gave up because there are thousands of sets and very few do not contain any other colors. Silk, satin, whatever, as long as it doesn't feel cheap. Thanks for any info!

This one reverses to red, has an Asian feel and would look nice but is a coverlet. Fabric isn't mentioned. Asian inspired rooms generally are more simplistic - no froo froo.

Eastern Accents manufactures to the trade but they also have some retail stores. You would need to check the locater. I like theirs better than the Macy's one. You can also try Ethan Allen or Thomasville to work with a design consultant and have one custom made.

Art was traditionally supposed to represent things – a person; a place; even a defined feeling. One associated clearly with the expression on the faces of the artwork's subjects; or expressed itself through the subject matter. Religious devotion for the Creation of Adam; mystic, almost gnomic, versions of love or chastity in the Mona Lisa. The way in which these subjects were painted directed exactly a viewer's response to each work – this, the artist seemed to be saying, is the way you should feel. Modern art, by contrast, delved into then-unpalatable ideas about the fluidity of human emotion, of experience; the idea that one viewer's love may well be the next man's hatred. As a result, modern art was (naturally) exceedingly revolutionary, and vilified and revered in about equal parts. Proponents of the old styles recoiled in horror at the faces of these inchoate images, works of modern art whose subject wasn't even there, let alone immediately recognisable; while the bright young things of the new movement watched in awe as masters like Edvard Munch and Wasily Kandinsky somehow translated the pure matter of human experience onto canvas. Modern art, now, is accepted to the point of tedium. Like what was then the old guard, the shapes and forms of modern art are everywhere – on posters, in adverts, even in the decorative schemes found on bathroom tiles, wallpaper and rugs. We've become inured to its immediacy, its freshness and its almost prescient ability to morph before us, into an embodiment of whatever emotion is deepest in our own breast. Kandinsky's circles hang on the walls of every student room between here and France, while the Tate Modern shows us sculptures and huge canvases by the same, ever-repeated roster of Big Names. Is the day of modern art done, then? Has modern art had her time in the sun, soon to be eclipsed by something else, something other that, in its turn, will become the new modern art – shocking, even, to Damien Hirst? No. Because when Edvard Munch first painted the soul of madness, he created something, a "modern art", that would last forever – would go on forever, endlessly reinventing itself. Modern art is the art of the soul, of the mind, the emotion and the heart. Like people, modern art is ceaselessly changing, endlessly reinventing itself and the way it sees or shows the world: unlike people, modern art can't lie. It's only colours and shapes, arranged before us. And we, who look at it, see in its swirls, its geometric arrangements of colour and line, a truth looking back at us that we can only hide from each other –never from ourselves. Modern art is the truth, on canvas, presented to each and every person who looks at it. For that reason alone, modern art, the art of feeling, can never grow old.

How do you clean artists paint brushes when they paint with oil paint?
My son got a whole Art Studio with paints, brushes, easel and canvases. He is using the oil paints and we can't figure out what to use to clean the brushes; soap and water isn't working.
It is because oil and water don't mix.
You have to use a solvent for oil to clean the brushes. Turpentine or mineral spirits. Pour some into a lidded jar or can, rinse the brushes thoroughly in it, wipe the brushes, then clean with soap and water.
Put the lid on the turpentine jar, and keep to re-use (the paint solids will settle to the bottom; eventually, when there are too many solids, you'll pour off the clean mineral spirits into a new jar or can, and dispose of the old one.)

Painting Bamboo
The Beauty of the Outdoors, With Bamboo Shades
Go on a trip to a state or national park. Enjoy the beauty of the trees, the fresh air, the beautiful sounds. When you go home, you do not need to leave that all behind. There is so much beauty in nature that you can bring some of it home with you, and install it in your windows. The beauty of nature is the true presence of woven wood bamboo shades, and when using natural bamboo, this is not only a beautiful product, but also an ecologically friendly window treatment.
Bamboo is a natural product, the result of one of the fastest growing trees in the world. The bamboo used in real woven bamboo shades will have been selected from trees that can grow as much as four feet or more each month. This rapid growth allows consumers of bamboo shades to feel ecologically right while bringing some of this natural beauty into their homes.
The natural stylings of bamboo shades comes from, among other sources, the fact that the pieces are woven together in a traditional style. The process is not much different from the actual weaving of fabrics, but the bamboo shades use full bamboo sticks as the fill, so the “fabric” is a random looking assortment of various colored bamboo reeds and tubes to make a real fresh from the jungle look.
Another element that helps make bamboo shades look natural is the manner in which they are stained. Many wood products are stained or colored in an attempt to make every piece look identical. Bamboo shades, on the other hand, are prepared and stained in order to preserve the true nature of them. The rough edges, the hard bamboo grain, and the large bumps and joints all lead to an inconsistent finish, and make the sticks unable to accept a uniform coating of the colorants. This means that every stick will have an entirely unique color and appearance.
The actual production of bamboo shades, the fabrication, creates a final product that has the look of a custom crafted hand made product. Do not get this wrong to think that you will see horrible flaws and defects, and that there will be glue dripping all over. On the contrary, these will all be captured and cleaned, and the end product will be a unique customized design, and this uniqueness of the bamboo shades is what you are seeking. However, you will need to be willing to have a tolerance for many of these defects. Bamboo shades will often have a twist, a bump, or irregular folding. This is minor, and not unattractive, but just enough to help one perceive the custom crafted, mountain cabin style of the natural shades that are bamboo shades.
Of course, the sales of the designs, and the taste of the consumers are fully related. Consumers have voted their tastes with bamboo shades through their choices in colors. While there are a few white patterns available in bamboo shades, these happen to be the lowest selling colors in the category of woven wood shades. As white is the most important color range in shutter, shades, and particularly wood blinds, it is among the lowest in popularity for bamboo shades. Consumers are choosing these shades for their beauty and their natural appearances, as evidenced by the inverted sales of more dark colors than light paints, as compared to other products in this product group.
We should revisit, given that we have focussed on the natural look, what it means to take these beautiful trees and mill them into attractive bamboo shades. Unlike most other wood based products, the raw material used here is rapidly renewing. The fact that a bamboo tree can grow four feet in a month is only part of the story. These trees grow very aggressively, and new trees become available for harvest quickly. So, while you may feel that you are hurting nature to bring it inside, it is just not the case. Bamboo is nearly a miracle wood in natural resources. The wood in each bamboo shade is replaced quicker than it is used, and there are new techniques being developed to grow more bamboo, even in non native habitats.
Relax in nature, enjoy the hike, the beauty and the sensation of being out there, “in it.” That is what a bamboo shade will help you do when you design your home spaces. These incomparable shades can allow you to decorate and bring in the great out doors, ming that back to nature look real. At the same time, the transplant of that outside beauty to the inside, will not hurt the environment, so consumers will not have extra “eco-guilt” when they choose bamboo shades.

Has anyone painted bamboo fencing?
I was thinking of getting bamboo to cover our old ugly timber fence it comes in sheets you attach to fence and bamboo is about the thickness of your thumb.But I've heard it goes grey after a few years,can you spray paint bamboo when it goes grey or loses it's colour,if so how long does the repaint last and will it peel.thanks Nancy
I live in Florida and have put up 4 of these bamboo fences..2 for myself, and two for other friends..they will turn grey way before a few years..one season or less..and they will not hold a stain for they come with a lacquer/varnish type finish the start with..the hollow ends at top bring water in at an exceptional rate..so they grey and weather from the inside first..same as the bottom..they are hollow open reeds and suck the moisture right up....They will also become brittle and start to rot after a full season, become brittle and break..the wire holding them together is so fine they soon start to break..our solution..we simply bought new bamboo rolls every season and put right over the old...If you are going for a long lasting fence..this is not your best choice..I am also a 37 year experienced painter (check out my profile) so i know my sealing products well...If you do TRY to use a seler(clear or stain) you will have to use an OIL BASE..as someone suggested not to here..for the finish on them already is a solvent based product..a water base product will peel right off..even if simply a stain..for it will not penetrate the finsih already on it..believe me..you have to put a new fencing over it anually if you dont want it to show grey..simply covering it up is the option that you must choose if this is what you want...
