The only brief details from Gospels regarding the birth of Christ ensures that the Renaissance artists had plenty of scope for creative styles and imagination. Nativity represents one of the most common choices for religious paintings, and christian paintings remain popular even today. The quality and innovation of renaissance art of the time ensures it is an important topic in the study of art, whether the student is religious or not. The following details some of the most famous nativity paintings.
Across the board, Mary & Joseph are always included alongside visiting Shepherds. Piero della Francesca's The Nativity (1475-1480) included a host of angels to underline the miraculous nature of the event. It certainly had a more religious and significant feel to it than others than have followed.Durer, Hugo van der Goes and Ghirlandaioalso produced famous nativity oil paintings. Durer's had an endearing charm that others could not match.
Hans Bulding Grien's version featured a cosy night time feel, with a more personal atmosphere, whereas Sandro Botticelli's 1500 masterpiece of The Mystic Nativity features a whole host of extras, making the event seem more like a circus than miraculous religious moment. The picture includes dancing angels and others receiving redemption whilst exchanging loving embraces.
Nativity paintings are still popular choices around the world and rank highly alongside the choice of subject for Christian paintings, alongside the likes of resurrection, baptism, virgin & child and the crucifixion. For different people nativity symbolises different values and meanings, but always positive. For others they can remind one of childhood religious activities, perhaps at school.

Painting Vans/Converse?
i'm planning on painting my Vans and Converse to give them my creative touch ((: but i'm not really sure what types of materials or techniques to use, since paint isn't my medium [tattoo design and sketching is more of my strong suit]...
i have a few acrylic paints, water colour paints, and oil paints with me, and no fabric paints. and what about weather? i live in augusta, georgia, so will the climate be a problem? please help!! thanks ((:
i painted a pair of rubber clods last year with acrylic with out a matte medium, it lasted 8 months or so, through rain, snow, garden work. If I painted another pair I would use, the matte medium mixed with acrylic paint ( Americana is a superior coverage).
