question for people in oil painting and/or have done oil painting?

in my art class we have to do an abstract painting. i was thinking in stead of just doing the traditional i would do a pinting on all sides except for the top and bottom. here is what i mean.

1. on the main front i would a normal abstract and on the back i would take an old painting ive done and change it a bit buy cutting out various canvas paper and pasting it on it and in those cutt out squares it would be the the covered up section but the size would be bigger kinda like wha t u would see if u saw an object through a glass bottle or cup.
2. and on the sides i would have 30 x 3 or by 4 (havent decided the size) and just paint one solid color and mix small object like bit of use sunflower seeds or whatever and paint it on top it in a specific design.

and of course each frame would be pasted to the whole some way.

so do u think this is a good idea? any sugestions?

Hey, it's your expression and your painting. Sounds to me like you have it pretty much figured out already. I like the idea of taking the visual abstract to the next level and adding texture to it also. Just make sure everything is secured and stays where you want it. Good quality art should stand the test of time. You should keep in mind also what you decide to use to form the textures. With added substances you run the risk of decay and composition breakdown. It might be a good idea to run it by your professor since a grade is to be expected.
