What can you do if you have this degree?

I know someone who is finishing up a Master of Fine Arts program in playwriting this spring at UNM (University of New Mexico). I am completely baffled that this is even a real degree. Does anyone know of a real job where this would make you competitive? (Outside of writing a one in a million hit play...) I would really like to hear from people who have a similar degree and let me know what doors it opened for them…

My sister has a degree in fine arts.
And at the moment because of it she is a fashion designer for GAP.
