Impressionist Still

Vincent Van Gogh had an extraordinary career which we touch on here by highlighting some of his best paintings in a brief, readable manner to be accessible to all those wishing to discover new Van Gogh paintings quickly.
Night Cafe remains a popular cafe bar for Van Gogh fans. Its incredible use of colour portrays an exciting environment which played host to some of his best friends, Joseph-Michel and his wife Marie Ginoux.
Sunflowers is perhaps Vincent's best known series of paintings, and were also most popular with his famous artist friend, Paul Gauguin, who purchased two himself, obviously saw some richness and ability in Vincent's paintings, whilst the artist struggled in general with his style which was too innovative for the period. His two series of sunflowers include some laid down, and some in vases. He continued with other flowers at times, but Sunflowers remain most well-known.
Cafe Terrace at Night is a key painting by the Dutch impressionist, both for its popularity but also its prominence in his letters to his brother Theo that are now regularly researched and examined. The Night Cafe Bar itself is a popular destination for international art fans wishing to soak up some of the Vincent's Dutch Impressionist magic and also spend some time close to the subject of one of his most famous paintings.
The Starry Night was a painting by Van Gogh as he took a view from his room window, and was illustrated in his own extraordinary style with movements of the brush that no-one had used up to that point anywhere in the world of art. Rumours are abound that at the time of the The Starry Night, Vincent was seriously considering using religion as a way of handling his mental issues, though this hasn't been confirmed even now.
Irises is a beautiful flowers painting by Van Gogh that fails to illustrate quite how Vincent's mind was at that time. He was on the verge of another breakdown and at this time saw painting not only as his passion, but also his treatment, to avoid a complete collapse of his mental state. Sadly Vincent failed in his attempts to control his problems and his time at the asylum were not enough to save him.
Wheatfield with Crows produced by Van Gogh in 1890 was believed to be his last painting, until recently being disproved. The darkness that purveys around the sky in this painting suggests at Van Gogh's mood whilst he created Wheatfield with Crows but it is unclear whether it was just an accurate reflection of the weather at that time.
Tom Gurney art blogs loves to discover new artists all the time, and add them to his art blog at art150.com. If you are looking for more information on Van Gogh in particular, you're best jumping straight to his Starry Night post. If you wish to buy online, we'd suggest Van Gogh Paintings.
-------> What is Impressionism? <-------?
This week in my art class we're supposed to do an Impressionist Art Piece.
Problem? I have no idea what Impressionism is.
Yes, I've Googled it. Yes, I've read all sorts of descriptions from different sites. But, no, I still dont get it.
So, what I want is for someone to explain to me what Impressionism is, in their own words [NO TEXTBOOK ANSWERS! Textbook answers hurt my brain >.<]
Make it simple, use examples if you will, please.
[P.S: Here are some of my questions within my Impressionism question]
Is it like painting scenery? Like taking a photo of something, but it's a painting? What in blazes does 'vibrant brush strokes' mean? Etc, etc...
impressionist art started in the 19 Century. it is a form of art... much like post modernism ... it is a style of painting. in this style of painting you can see the brush strokes. so when you ask what vibrant brush strokes are they are where they are strong colours and bright and visible. it is paintings of normal or ordinary matters eg. a women sitting in a paddock.. movement and light is crucial.. eg reflection of the sun in the water the lighting that creates and the movement of the water itself.. it creates a sort of moving picture... this gives it life. a main thing is that you can see individual brush strokes.
if you look in images and have a look at the paintings you will notice the things i have mentioned and this may help you understand... and its sort of like taking a picture... but has its own style which makes it very different from a picture./... hope this helps
