Gold Leaf on Paper?

Does anyone know how this Gold Leaf Stuff works. I have an 18 inch 1/2 inch round circle that is drawn on paper with a 1/4 inch circle just under the first one. I want to do the first one in gold and the second one in silver. Yes, I've bought the Gold/silver pens and metallic paints but they aren't working because of the pores in the paper, they come out dull....I want it to be really gold looking and reflective. Will this Gold Leaf stuff work? And can I do some detailed stuff with it or is it just blocks of gold stuff that comes out?

Gold Leaf is extremely thin and applying it takes some practice, but it sounds like your best bet.

Real Gold Leaf is 24k and awfully expensive, but you can buy imitation leaf and it looks great. It will work fine on paper.

In a nutshell... first you apply a special glue (called size) to the area you want covered, then apply the leaf to the area, burnish it down lightly, brush away what hasn't stuck... and it's done. If the area to be covered is bigger than the sheet, apply a 2nd sheet and the seams blend together invisibly.

Imitation leaf will tarnish, so it should be varnished when dry. Just use a fine brush & some gloss acrylic varnish or podge.
