Art that was produced after the Second World War is called Contemporary art. Most museums and galleries have collections of contemporary art exhibited. Similarly, Islamic Art is also considered contemporary if it was produced after World War II. For example, Ancient Assyrian art (llamasu and low‐relief sculptures of hunts and battles) directly reflects the war‐like nature of the people who created it. In the same way, Abstract Expressionism (Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, et al) can be seen to reflect the experimentation and innovation that was prioritized in post‐World War 2 America.

Conversely, the naturalism that we see in art made under Akhenaton was a drastic departure from the traditional art of Ancient Egypt, just as the anti‐art of the Dada movement was a direct reaction against World War 1 and the failures of Reason and the Age of Enlightenment.
